Math Spies in London Introduction

Welcome back, Math Spy!  I hope you had a splendid vacation and are ready to get back to work.  I am still in London working on some intelligence for your next mission.

In order to complete this mission, you need to know about time zones.  Local time for each of the cities in this mission is based on the time zone it is in.  As you travel east, you move ahead an hour for each time zone.  As you travel west, you subtract an hour for each time zone.  This is because as the earth rotates, each section or zone receives sunlight at a different time.

(If you have a globe and a flashlight, you may want to experiment with this.)

To help you with this mission, I have provided the chart below.  Copy and complete it to help you solve the problems:

Seattle, WA, USA

Pacific Daylight Time

(PDT)

Chicago, IL, USA

Central Daylight Time

(CDT)

New York, NY, USA

Eastern Daylight Time

(EDT)

London, England, UK

British Summer Time

(BST)

12:00 A. M.

2:00 A. M.

3:00 A. M.

8:00 A. M.

After you have copied the chart click here to begin the mission.
